We are extremely excited to announce a new blog series where we get to know the Nuritas™ Team!
For our first blog entry we have interviewed Cyril Lopez, MSc. He is a Computational Biologist and has been with Nuritas since the very beginning.
Team Member: Cyril Lopez
Position at Nuritas™: Computational Biologist
What inspired you to become a Computational Biologist?
My interests come in this order:
1) A passion for Informatics
2) A passion for Science
3) A passion for Life Science
Finally, the realisation that most of the biologists hate informatics and vice versa
There are so many things that are missing where Biology and Informatics meet. That’s why putting them together and creating new things is so much fun, that’s what really inspires me.
What do you think is the best scientific innovation (aside from Nuritas™, of course)?
That’s a tough question… If it was a proper “scientific innovation” I would have said “the Internet”. But instead I will vote for the ability to make an organism (plant, animal, bacteria or other) express a custom designed DNA or RNA sequence to regulate the organism or express new proteins (through transformation or transfection for example).
Who is your favourite scientist and why?
Another tough question… I would say all true scientists are my favourite, the ones that do true science, that are unbiased, objective and accurate.
What interests you the most right now in the health and/or food arena?
The infinite amount of molecules we can find in food. There are so many of them and all with very unique properties, it’s amazing! Lots of keys to health are hidden and locked within food but don’t worry, we are finding them!
What do you like most about working at Nuritas™?
What I love among other things at Nuritas is the freedom we have to bring any innovation/crazy idea to life. There is support from science and business people at all levels from the idea in your brain to the real thing. People actually listen to each other and are passionate about what they do. This speeds up the building of good Science from theory to life.
If you could be a peptide which peptide would you be and what disease would you target?
I would be a 42 amino acids peptide (almost a protein!) that cures every disease. I would make you healthy and young forever but I would have lots of Tryptophans and other aromatic residues to make myself smell and taste terrible, because it’s too easy if everything is positive!
Any last comments?
It’s raining and I lost my umbrella.
