Nuritas Partners with MetaboTwin – a New Research Project Developing the First Human Dietary Digital Twin

Dublin-based peptide company brings expertise to a four-year international project predicting individual metabolic responses to real-life meals 

 Dublin, Ireland - Nuritas, a company pioneering clinically proven food peptide discovery through AI, is an official partner in MetaboTwin, a four-year, TKI Agri & Food-funded research consortium led by Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), dedicated to building the world’s first Human Dietary Digital Twin. 

The project, which will run until 2029, will study human subjects and how their bodies respond to real-life meals, with a focus on different protein sources, including plant-based, fish, poultry, meat, and dairy, as well as the role of meal timing in shaping metabolic outcomes. The research brings together leading academics and a multi-sector group of industrial partners including Thai Union Innovation/John West Holland, Herbalife, Norilia, Ani.AI, and Genos. 

A Shared Vision for the Future of Food and Health 

Every meal triggers a cascade of metabolic responses. Current data-driven models for predicting these responses rely on closed-source algorithms that are limited to glucose-centric predictions and doesn’t consider other biological processes involved. MetaboTwin takes an innovative approach: a hybrid model combining physiology-based learnings with AI that accounts for nutrient composition, food matrix, food form and texture, meal timing and individual physiological characteristics to generate validated predictions of metabolic responses on how our bodies reacts after eating, with the intention to help design personalized dietary advice that could support the prevention of nutrition‑related diseases. 

Nuritas Commitment to Innovation in Food Science 

As an industrial partner, Nuritas will contribute to the study with its food peptide ingredients discovered through Magnifier, the company’s proprietary AI platform. Nuritas participation in this endeavor extends the company’s mission to positively impact human health by contributing to foundational science research on how food derived bioactive peptides interact with human metabolic systems at a mechanistic level. 

The MetaboTwin Digital Twin will ultimately serve as an open-source platform enabling food manufacturers, nutritionists, researchers, and product developers to conduct in silico testing of food formulations and dietary strategies, significantly reducing the cost and burden of human trials while accelerating the path to clinically meaningful, personalized nutrition.
